Audience Effects Theory

 1) Write a definition of a passive audience

A passive audience is the audience which read and take in what they see .

2) Write a definition of an active audience

The audience that do not just read but are actively involved .

3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory

The hypodermic needle theory is a model of communication suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver.

4) Write down a media product for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification

INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE: news , this is part of that because you are finding out about events around us which is what that part of the theory is .

PERSONAL IDENTITY:  social media ,  we post are personal lives on here and it shows what we mostly do with our lives .

DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT: A tele-vision show we love ,  this is because we either connect to it and love it or we understand it and  it  make s us happy .

RELATIONSHIPS: Ant and Dec , they are 2 British legends that everyone loves and knows , people build a relationship over time after all the laughs and enjoyment they bring to people .

5) Re-watch the clip from Blue Planet above and write a paragraph analysing how elements of the clip offer the audience pleasures or gratifications (use media terminology from Uses and Gratifications theory and the 3 Vs - notes outlined above).

In my opinion the most important audience pleasure for blue planet is diversion for many reasons , blue planet is a calming exciting show where you travel underwater visiting beautiful fish and seeing sights you would of never seen before all whilst relaxing at home. Another audience pleasure is personal relationships ; this is for Sir David Attenborough , he was voted Englands favourite person , that says a lot as he is just a presenter , which proves many people know and love of him this is visirus pleasure as you are making an attachement with someone .For the personal identity pleasure many people will find out more about what they love and like to watch , this will bring out new hobby's and enjoyments . There is also surveillance , which is people are finding out a lot about then ocean and sealife by a fantastic presenter they also might become addicted to learning about the ocean and sealife which is a new pleasure for people .
