  1) Why did Facebook buy Instagram for $1bn in 2012? Facebook bought instagram so they could make more money and also make sure instagram would'nt be their rival . 2) What are the benefits for media companies of vertical integration? Vertical interegation is when companies have loads of other little companies which they own meaning they have more companies which give them more incomes meaning they produce more money . 3) What are the benefits for media companies of horizontal integration?   Companies don't want rivals as they could end up losing so they buy the other company to make sure there company just becomes bigger and better .  4) What is a subsidiary? A smaller company owned by a big company that are under control . 5) Give three examples of media companies that have used synergy to maximise the profit from a brand (there is one above to help you). 1.Disney-they make toys , theme parks and more just from they're all from they're other produces .  2.Harry Potter

AUDIENCE INDUSTRY POWER THEORY words:809

 “The internet has given audiences much more power than ever before.” To what extent do you agree with this statement? The audience have gained a lot of power with the audience for almost all aspects of the media , however they are some ways they have lost power in some media industries . 1 industry  where the audience have gained a lot of power is the music industry .They’re are a lot of changes in this industry since the rise of the internet . Some changes are the ways music is viewed , such as youtube. The adventage for the audience with youtube is they  do not have to pay to listen to music whereas before the internet you would of have to pay to listen to music but youtube is ultimately free . Another advantage for the music industry they have gained from the internet is it is on demand; this means you can listen to anyone at any time which is really great for the audience and producers who want to become big also there is a massive increase in variety as there are way more produ

Audience Effects Theory

  1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? This is the message or ideology/belief that the producer wants you to go away with. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? When the audience rejects the preferred reading  , and creates their own meaning for the text  . This can happen if the   media contains controversial themes that the audience member disagrees with. 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film? The trailer is trying to present the teenagers as mischieveus and annoying,as they have made Harry extremely angry and have even killed people. 4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?    1) Write  your feedback and LR into a  NEW  blogpost . WWW(what went well)-This is a very positive first assessment In media with plenty to build on. WELL DONE!
